YOURS: This week's "YOURS" goes to Tracey over at Girls To Grow. Her post is about finding the positive in our children, perhaps noticing how much dirt they track OUT rather than track IN...
This post touched me because this is the very thing I have been trying to improve in my life. In fact, just last week marked the beginning of an experiment to go for a week without complaining to my husband about ANYTHING. It was difficult at times, as I felt like I wasn't being as open as I was used to, but I think it made for a much more positive week, and I'm hoping it rubs off on the rest of the family. Thank you so much, Tracey, for your insight and inspiration. If you'd like, please feel free to grab the "I Was Featured" button from the left sidebar. For Tracey's entire post, click HERE.
MINE: My feature this week is one of my favorite smoothie recipes of all time. The 14-year-old girl came up with this particular recipe, but it can be altered in many ways. For instance, one of my best friends adds a cup of water and lots more ice to give this smoothie a lighter, more slushy feel. Or, if dark chocolate doesn't do it for you, you can substitute regular cocoa powder. Don't like bananas? Make a dark chocolate strawberry smoothie! The possibilities are endless. In the following video featuring the 13-year-old boy, a Vita-Mix is used, but a regular blender will work, too, just probably will take a bit longer and the smoothie won't be as smooth as if it were made in a Vita-Mix. If you don't have time to watch the video, but want the recipe, I have completely considered your needs and have posted the recipe right below the video. You can thank me later. Enjoy!

Oh, my mouth is watering...gotta go to the store and get some bananas...
ReplyDeleteHow can you go wrong when you mix frozen and chocolate.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time participating in Homemaker Monday! Found you through Tara at Feels Like Home.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds SO yummy. And I have leftover bananas too!
ReplyDeleteI've made a similar smoothie at our house. It's amazing how the frozen banana makes it seem like it has ice cream in it. So yummy!
ReplyDeleteIt's always great to get new smoothie recipes. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteTell Reid he's gonna be the next Brad Pitt! And the smoothie looks yummy!
ReplyDeleteAbout being more positive - our sin nature sure makes that a challenge, huh?!! 8-/
ReplyDeleteSon #3 was the type that you ALWAYS had to know where he was and what he was doing. Period. Examples of why - at 18 months he made it to the top of the fridge to retrieve what I had taken away from him and sat up there (I had then gone to the living room to nurse son #4). Also around that time he got out of his car seat, opened the roll down side window on our full size station wagon, climbed onto the roof of the car and came crawling back to where I was sorting some stuff in the way back. At 3 1/2 he jacked up that same station wagon and had started to loosen one of the lug nuts - in 2 min. time!! We had had a flat tire, Brian had put on the spare - got the real one fixed, I had loaded the boys up to head someplace, ran back in to grab something .. he was gonna help daddy ... you get the picture. BUT, he LOVED to "help", therefore, I had him helping me every time it was at all possible. And I called him "my buddy" - he needed to hear positive reafermation from me, I needed to mentally remind myself of his good traits.
In fifth grade son #1 was diagnosed not only dyslexic, but also high ADD, a-n-d, ODD (oppisitional defiant disorder). Little 'challenges' were BIG deals. Big challenges were full blown war. Many times I verbally reminded both of us, "While I don't like you right now, I DO LOVE YOU!!!". And I would make myself do special things (acts of love) for him. And I would make enormous deals out of the tinest little positives with him (sometimes others accused me of making mountains out of mole hills) - but he needed to hear positive about himself coming out of my mouth. Now he's 26, and when he calls "just to talk" or to use me as a sounding board - SUPREME happiness/answers to prayer!!!
Keep looking for the positive girl!! Yes it is/can be challenging, no doubt about it. But doing so sure helps sanity! ;-}
