If you would like to participate, or just "lurk", please just click on the "COMMENTS (SHARE YOURS!)" link at the bottom of this post and leave your comment in the comment window or just read what others have to say. I will be sitting here by my computer from 10:00 AM until 11:45 MST to share my beliefs as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or, as we are otherwise known, a Mormon.
Today's video I would like to share with you has such important reference to happenings in this day and age. I have read the original talk from which this video was composed (HERE) numerous times and it is such an important message. I hope you'll take the time to watch it...
Now let's chat!
I remember listening to that talk during General Conference when Elder Hales gave it and thinking about how needed that message is for our times. Too often we are bombarded with those "you deserve it" types of message that justify buying and having whatever we want, whenever we want. Thanks for sharing the talk and video. So inspirational!
ReplyDeleteLeslie, it is so true that we live in a "you deserve it" age! I loved when he said that, along with saying "I love you" to our spouses, we need to learn to say "we can't afford it". So, so true! Really, I did listen to this talk over and over because I NEEDED that inspiration!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog. I read the discussion on the Blog Frog back in October. Made my head spin a bit! You did a great job of defending our Faith, though.
ReplyDeleteI think it's funny how I so readily accept those that call themselves Christians and I don't question it - I'm just happy they believe in Jesus Christ. I feel I have to convince people that I am too and wonder why they can't reciprocate?
But I am happy and can't be any other way.
The Gospel is cool.
Thanks,
Laura

My computer time was interrupted by a phone call and I was hoping that once I was off the phone there would be some other comments to read. I guess today is a busy day for everyone. Anyway, since I'm LDS I don't really have any questions about the church. But I am curious about the church in Mexico where you life. Are there a lot of members in your area? Are there many other people from the states that live in your town?
ReplyDeleteOnce in college I had the chance to travel with a group from BYU to Ciudad Obregon (if I remember correctly, that's where we went) and stayed with members for a week. It was a wonderful experience and I loved our time there. The ward we attended on Sunday was a good size ward. It was a lot bigger than the ward I attend now in rural Washington state anyway.
I meant to say "where you live"
ReplyDeletelol ;)
Laura, so you were there, huh? That was crazy! I'm so glad things have calmed down since then! And thank you for your compliment. I feel the same way about the whole Christian thing!
ReplyDeleteI've heard that in the mormon church if you do something "really bad" you have to go talk to your bishop in order to be forgiven. Is that only for sexual things? How far is too far? What things are "really bad"? Sorry I know your live chat is over, I was just wondering and maybe you could answer next week.
ReplyDeleteHi Jen -
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your newest adorable child! He is as beauitful as you are, inside and out.
Also, thank you very much for hosting these Tuesday chats. I work - so I do not get to participate, tho I would love too.
I was raised by not really religous parents, but was told we are christian my whole life. Now that i have children of my own, I have discovered how important faith is to raising them properly , and is becomming to me. I have always felt something was missing. I only now can say that its a relationship with God. Although at this point in time, I am unsure exactly what my brand of faith is, learning more and more about LDS, Catholism, Judaism will one day help me decide what it is I beleive.
Again, I want to thank you for this, the effort and love in which you patiently help people like me, still trying to figure things out.

Anonymous 1, thank you for your question. It's true, if a member of our church commits a serious sin, it is advised that they see the bishop to go through a repentance process. Although only The Lord can grant forgiveness, the bishop can help members repent and get help if need be. Sexual sin is certainly a reason to go to the bishop, but other sins can require such as visit as well, such as "heavy petting", committing a crime, having an addiction to alcohol, drugs or pornography, abuse to family members and the like.
ReplyDeleteI hope that answered your question.
Nancy, thank you so much for your sweet comment today! It's so true that once we have kids, our whole outlook on life changes and we realize the importance of teaching them faith in God.
ReplyDeleteDo you have a Book of Mormon, Nancy? I would love to send you one if not, and that way, you could have a closer look into the Mormon church. If you'd like to email me privately, my email is mom2my9@gmail.com.
Thank you again for your comment!
