....to return in five days, leaving me in Heaven at my mother's house with only the newborn...
1. Cleaned my mom's living room, knowing it would stay that way...
2. Left two remote controls on the arm of the couch, knowing that they would stay that way...
3. Realized that I could take a nap whenever I wanted, not just from 1:30 to 3:00...
4. Didn't make dinner, but had toast with blueberry jam instead...
5. Watched "The Pursuit of Happyness" with my mother...
6. Ate caldo, a Mexican soup, on the couch...
7. Wondered why I ever thought it was difficult to take care of a newborn...
8. Ate rum raisin ice cream without sharing...
9. Had a lengthy, uninterrupted conversation with my mother and brother about the merits of a vegetarian lifestyle...
10. Made black bean brownies, which are still baking, and which recipe I'll share if they turn out well...
But even with all of this freedom and fun, I still almost shed a tear as I watched the 15-passenger van drive off, especially after both twins waved goodbye to me at the same time and said, "Bye, Mommie."
Almost....

ReplyDeleteWow! Fourteen hours! Did you get the chance to go to the bathroom by yourself too? I bet you could've made a phone call too, without someone yelling "mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, who ya talking to?, mom, mom, mom..."
ReplyDeleteHaha, Jb, too true! I did have some nice conversations that day, too!
ReplyDeleteI really hope you got to take an uninterrupted shower or better yet, a long bubble bath!
ReplyDeleteOH here's another one...give yourself a mani/pedi!!!
So many things to do...so little time!
Oh, I feel exactly like that as I prepare to leave from home for 5 days. I'll be getting an awesome break and doing tons of non-mommy things, which sounds delightful. But when my 5 yr old asked me if I'd be sad....and then reassured me I could still see him even though he's away....yea, my heart melted a bit.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the time of rest!
Wow fourteen hours? What's a girl to do?! I loved #4 the best. Enjoy your vacation. :)
ReplyDeleteHeaven...and well deserved!
ReplyDeleteSo, 'poor' John had eight traped kids in the van for a fourteen hour trip, while you got to cuddle and enjoy your new born.
ReplyDeleteAnd now John and their hosts are entertaining and keeping up with the eight kids for five days while you, your mom, and the new born enjoy the epitamy of "bonding time" together. N I C E!!!!! :-> VERY N I C E!!!!!
I had to chuckle, just this week I had left a comment on a different blog about how the reason refrigerators don't stay clean and organized is because mom's are not the only ones whom have access to them. Remote controls don't stay where they are suppose to for the exact same reasons. And the list goes on....
Just a reminder - make SURE that when John calls to talk to you, you are a VERY empathtic conversationialist!!! ;-p
Ya know, you could eat a whole jar of Smucker's peanut butter, with one or two Nestle choc. chips atop each bite, and neither have to share them, nor explain why your doing so o;-p
Enjoy your time friend!!!
Cheryl, I did crack up a bit about your "empathetic conversationalist" comment! I'll try to remember that! :)
ReplyDeleteHow heavenly! I've tried to make black bean brownies before, but they turned out kind of lumpy. Would you share your recipe? Thanks! Enjoy your time with you mom!
ReplyDeleteAre you bored yet??
ReplyDeleteEnjoy it! A nap sounds like a good idea! :)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a dream. A peaceful dream that is far from my reality.
ReplyDeleteBe sure when they get back to not look too refreshed. In fact, mess your hair up, let the baby spit up on you and meet him at the door in tears of "gratefulness" that he is back home.
Ahhhhh....pure bliss! What a great bonding time with you and the baby too!
ReplyDeleteGood luck to your husband with the rest of the kids!!
Enjoy. Relax. Have a peaceful moment.
ReplyDeleteFive days with only the infant! I love your husband.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy every minute of it!
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed looking over your last several posts and catching up! :) I haven't been on blogs in a while. Glad you are getting a little break to enjoy your sweet new baby. Good luck to and bless your sweet hubby for being so willing to do that! He is awesome! And- I agree- I once thought taking care of a newborn was tough- maybe it is because we have had twins that toughened us up a bit- but ya, a single newborn is not tough- it is the other stuff you have to do that can be hard. :)
ReplyDeleteHey Jen just checked in to see if you'd had the baby, he is wonderful and you look fabulous. I was hoping I could get you to stop by my blog my 4 year old Joel is having serious medical issues and I was hoping you would pray for him.
ReplyDeleteCheryl
just visited your blog, please would you want to visit my blog again, I hope my blog will give you a new information, thank you
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see that you got a well deserved break! Love reading your blog:)
ReplyDeleteI saw 2 of your boys in SLC today at the grandma missionaries' apartment. They came between sessions for lunch. Cute boys, and they looked very sharp in their pressed white shirts and ties. We'll be there tomorrow, too, and I think John and kids will be there to eat? Not sure, but I think that's what I was told. Glad you're getting some time to yourself with baby. :)
ReplyDeleteA much deserved vacation. Don't know too many husbands that would do what John does. He is really good about taking off by himself with the kids. Hats off to him!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your vacation!
You're pretty amazing. (Watch out for those twins. I have a twin sister and, you know, it can lead to some real hairy issues when adults.)
ReplyDeleteRegarding #10 - They didn't. Jen's mom
ReplyDeleteHaha, Mom!~ No, they did not. And the second and third attempt did not either. I'm still going to try, try again, though!
