Sesame Quinoa Star Crackers

Photobucket

Since John bought me a Bosch a few months ago, I've been having great fun trying new recipes from the book that came wrapped in plastic with the warranties, information, and rebate forms. And I LOVE it! Recently I tried the Sesame Quinoa Crackers because I have an abundance of quinoa, as it is one of the healthiest grains around, being equal to milk in protein. And I wanted to try a fun shape, so the kids would be excited about trying the crackers even if they didn't taste good. My reward? Not only did they love the star shapes, they thought the crackers tasted pretty good, too! These crackers are super-healthy, and somewhat heavy, but they make a great snack for dipping, traveling or watching movies! Plus, the kids love to help make stuff like this. See.....?

(I didn't realize how much is actually going on in this photo.)

(Okay, so the 11-year-old boy isn't really helping, but the crackers still look great!)

Enjoy!

Ingredients:
1 cup quinoa flour
3 tsp sesame seeds
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup water
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 tsp baking powder
4 Tbsp sesame or garlic oil

For the tops of crackers:
2 tsp soy sauce of Braggs Amino Acids
2 tsp sesame or garlic oil

Directions:
Place ingredients in a mixing bowl and stir until well mixed. Let rest of 10 minutes. Roll out cracker dough to 1/16" thickness on a large, oiled cookie sheet (or use parchment paper). Cut with star-shaped (or other) cookies cutters.

Combine soy sauce (or Bragss Amino Acids) and sesame or garlic oil. Brush on top of crackers. Bake at 400 degrees F for 10 to 20 minutes, depending on thickness of crackers, until browned and crispy.

Cool on rack. Serve plain or with a dip!
