Good morning and welcome to our weekly "Questions About Mormonism" Live Chat!

A Light Unto the Gentiles by Greg Olsen

If you would like to participate, or just "lurk", please just click on the "COMMENTS (SHARE YOURS!)" link at the bottom of this post and leave your comment in the comment window or just read what others have to say. I will be sitting here by my computer from 10:00 AM until 11:45 MST to share my beliefs as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or, as we are otherwise known, a Mormon. My 17-year-old son recently asked if I thought I was qualified to do this, and I answered that while I am certainly no scholar of Mormon doctrine, I think anyone is qualified to share and answer questions about what they believe. And that is what I am here for.

Today's "Mormon Message" is a video which will help us remember the true meaning of Christmas. This one made me cry also, as did the one I posted last week, and I hope you'll take the time to view it...

Again, thank you so much for being here and I look forward to talking with you this morning!

I have enjoyed reading your blog! I am also a member of the church so I don't really have a doctrinal or belief question.I am inspired by your life story and how you have remained faithful. Sometimes I lurk other's blogs hoping to find inspiration. You deliver! :)

Wow, thank you, Kristin! I don't know how I would have gotten through life and some it's happenings without my faith. I'm so grateful for being raised the way I was and for all that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ did for us!

I know some Rasmussens over in West Texas where I'm from. Any relation?

Thanks again for your sweet comment and I hope you see you around soon!

Hi- I'm back :) I'm bored at work and have perused all my blog reads for the day :)
My husband's Rasmussen line of family is all from Draper, UT... I'm not sure if there are any down in TX.. none that I've heard of.
My husband and I just got married this past June... we were both divorced with two kids each. It has been such a blessing to find each other! We struggle with the ups and downs of a blended family. When I read your story of your first husband's death, I thought "wow, if this lady can get up and give a church talk the way she did right after such a hardship, then surely I need to be a little stronger!!" sorry I'm rambling, just feeling a little lost today, but am too trying to rely on my faith!

Congratulations on your new marriage! It is hard having a blended family, and my second husband had no children of his own, so I can only imagine how difficult it would be blending not only a couple, but children as well. I think my husband's challenge is that he was a bachelor for 49 years, and now, in a 4.5 year period of time, he has 9, and in two months, TEN kids! We definitely pray and rely on our faith a lot as well to get through the challenges of family life, but it is all worth it!

Hi there, I was reading comments from another post and noticed that someone asked a question about eternal marriage, ie. what you think about Jesus saying that there will be no marrying or giving in marriage in heaven, and how that squares with the doctrine of eternal marriage. I couldn't find where you answered it, so sorry if this is a double up! If you did answer it, would you post a link to it? Thanks heaps, Chris.

Hi Chris. Thanks so much for your question. We believe that this scripture refers to the fact that when man marries two people, this marriage cannot continue on into the afterlife, but ends "at death do [them] part".

In Matthew 16:19, Jesus tells Peter...

19 "And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

We believe this refers to the sealing power God has given man through his priesthood, which is the power to act in God's name on earth.

Anonymous, I also wanted you to know that I will be hosting the live "Questions About Mormonism" chat today from 10:00 AM to 11:45 AM MST if you'd like to come back and chat in real time. You may also leave another comment here, but I might not be able to get to it until 10:00, as that's when the babysitter comes!

Thank you again for your question, Chris!
