These are a few of my favorite things...

This set of bowls, given to me by my mother, as a gift to be used in our Mexican hacienda...

These salad servers, hand-made by my favorite aunt...

This talavera-style pear, purchased at Ross for $5.99...

This talavera pot, purchased by my husband at a fair in the Mexican border town where he works...

...and this wok, passed down to me after my father died. I'm sure he purchased it during one of his frequent trips to his favorite thrift store, where he loved to pick out and purchase brass knick knacks for my mother. My mother could never get him to understand that it was not brass she liked, but copper. You can read more about the issues that caused HERE.

Just thought you should know. Thanks for listening.

Thanks for telling, and oh, I read the story about the copper and brass objects, how hilarious, and how I can relate. You know, I have the same problem with my husband, he enjoys so much carrying things at home, but when I ask him to carry away something, no way!...may be the male istinct to provide...it is like, you know, the female istinct for shopping (picking up things) ;-)

Copper / Brass, they are both metals, right? he he he .... Did you always like all of the bright colors, or have they become part of you since your move south of the border?

I noticed that a lot of your favorite things were given to you by family members. In other words, they aren't things that you yourself have just picked up here or there ... therefore they are "favorites" because love and caring is involved :->

Cheryl, actually, I have come to love the brighter colors since I've moved to Mexico. Before my house was rustic country, with the typical barn red, hunter green and the like. So I guess I've changed!

And yes, my favorite things are usually given to my by family members or friends, so it is the sentiment of it more than the thing itself!~

I've read your blog before but have just recently created an account, joined the blog frog, etc, so I thought I'd leave a comment for once! I'm a Minnesotan living in Bolivia, so I enjoy reading about your life in Mexico! I saw your recent post about the Mennonite community in Mexico - it's the EXACT same here in BO :)

I love your favorite things! Especially the salad servers! How unique is that!?

I actually used to not be very appreciative of handmade things but I am more and more these days. It's maturity I guess, lol, but my favorite things I own are photo's that a beloved family member has taken and framed for me. I actually was just thinking about blogging them soon. Keep an eye out to see some awesome photography gifts I've received!

Did Bobbi make those spoons? They are just SO awesome. I wonder how hard they would be to make?
